Hear a Who?

Najia Sabir is a doctoral candidate at Indiana University – Bloomington seeking a degree in Instructional Systems Technology, and she is also an Accessibility Architect at Management Concepts in Virginia.

During her time teaching in the US and abroad Najia became interested in how educators were leveraging technological tools to prepare students with a set of 21st century skills. These skill-sets allow students to not only succeed, through content mastery, but also engage in complex multicultural conversation through perceptive-taking in an attempt to solve glocal problems.

These notions of preparing students for the challenges that lie ahead begin with a teacher’s ability to facilitate these paradigms in their instruction and classroom. How are teachers transforming their education practices? What types of training and professional development activities have helped these teachers succeed in globalizing their classroom? Are there additional systems and networks that have truly supported the teachers have been able to sustain these transformative learning environments?

These are the questions that rattle around Najia’s mind. The notion that you understand yourself all the more better by understanding another, or others – is a concept that has floated alongside the research foci of 21st century skills, educational technology, teacher development and values, global education and collaboration.
